Just moved from Alabama to Georgia, which state can I collect unemployment from?
Q. Graduated from an Alabama college in May. I've had a part-time job in Alabama for the past four years. For the past 6-8 months, I've been applying for full-time jobs everywhere in Alabama with absolutely no call backs. Nothing. My mom recently moved from Alabama to Georgia so I figured I'd move in with her to help me out a bit. Still haven't found a job. Completely moneyless at this point. If I want to file a claim for unemployment, do I need to do it for Alabama or Georgia?
Asked by MHL - Fri Jul 23 12:42:13 2010 - Other - Careers & Employment - 1 Answers - Comments
A. The general assumption is unemployment = no job = no money Highly unusual to move to a new location and immediately claim unemployment (you may well have problems) and you cannot claim it from your previous location for the simply reason you don't kive there anymore

How do you go to small claims court in Alabama for past rent?
Q. Tenant has been evicted but owes over $5000.00 in past rent. I do not have $$ for an attorney and think this guy has the money but is a con artist. He works as a real estate agent for Century 21 so I think I could garnish his wages. Not sure of procedure or how to go about it in Alabama.
Asked by Gwen - Thu Feb 24 00:06:53 2011 - Law & Ethics - 4 Answers - Comments
A. The dollar amount you specified supersedes the limit for small claims court imposed by Alabama state law by about two thousand dollars. You can still sue in small claims court, but not for the full amount. I recommend finding an attorney who will take the case for a percentage of the judgment amount if the case is won. There are quite a few of those around.

A. You can go to the DCF(Department of children and families) office and tell them you want to apply for the relocation funds. You can also try local churches , sometimes they will help. But I would try the DCF office first.

what are the best conditions for a mini banana plant in alabama?
Q. i live in alabama and have recently obtained 5 miniature banana plants. they range from 1 inch tall to 2.5 feet tall. I am unsure whether or not to put them each in a pot so they can come indoors for winter or if i should put them in the ground. i understand that they get rather tall and that they need a lot of nutrients and sun but i am most concerned with the planting or potting issue. If they need to be in a pot, what size?

A. Derek I too live in Lower Alabama,,, I have several banana trees as part of my outside landscape. They do very well here, they love sunny spots. The trees wither in the winter but, they have several spouts from the same root that grows back. Now due to our climate I wouldn't expect the fruit to mature enough to eat. Good luck

What is the website for the Alabama education petition against BP?
Q. I heard a radio commercial this morning asking people to sign a petition online. It was for getting BP to pay Alabama schools, because of the tax revenue loss and thus school budget cuts that have resulted from loss of tourism. But I can't remember the website, and I'm having trouble finding it through Google. I think it was something like Save Alabama Students. I really can't remember, but that's my guess. Does anyone know what website this is, or where I can sign such a petition?

Who is going to win the Alabama vs. Florida college football game?
Q. I was just on yahoo college football pick'em and users are stuck in a 50/50 tie with who they think will win this game. What do you think? I would love to see Florida lose their final regular season game and get knocked out of the championship game. Then it should leave Texas and Alabama to decide the title.

A. Looking at both teams overall and what they have done so far, through observation I would say this win will go to the TIDE, ALABAMA. Florida Gators just hasn't had a test like this in quite a while. Not even this season against a Defense, special teams and running game like Alabama has. I say that MT. Cody and the D-line does a number on Tebow and contains him and the running game and the Gators can't win relying only of the arm of Tebow. Stop Tebow from being the main reason the chains move and you get into his mind. He gets visably frustrated when he isn't the one doing it himself. He is a glory junky. Not really a team player. Get in his head and he will make mistake that will cause them to lose.

Alabama marijuana MMS, am i really going to jail for 3 years for 6 plants in the closet?
Q. I live in alabama, madision county (huntsville) and i got caught with a small personal grow in my closet (6 small immature plants) and i was looking at the alabama marijuana laws and it says alabama has law with MMS (mandatory min sentencing). Through further reading i found that the judge has no power to sentence a person to less than the MMS. So am i (a peacful college student that never hurt anybody) really going to jail for 3 years?

A. In the State of Alabama, Alabama Criminal Code 13A-12-217, the offense is Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree. It is a felony offense carrying no less than one year and a day in jail. Because you're in college and hopefully never in trouble before you will most likely receive a stiff monetary fine, court costs and fees, plus a lengthy probation, and maybe a suspended sentence. In Alabama, you can apply for Youthful Offender or Pre-Trial Diversion. Talk to your attorney soon!

A. You can apply directly to British Petroleum, using the assorted resources at the supplied URL. However, just today, President Obama announced that an independent third party entity is taking over handling of such claims. You may want to wait until the details of that decision are soon made public.

Is there any truth to the Alabama stereotypes?
Q. I'm from Toronto, Canada and I'm considering attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It seems like a good university and has the majors I'm interested in and Birmingham looks like a nice city, but I can't help but think about the stereotypes of Alabama. Is it true that the majority of people in Alabama are conservative Christians, and is it true that there is still a lot of noticeable racial tension in Alabama? I know that most stereotypes are usually false, but so many people say that Alabama is the real deal when it comes to stereotypes of the south. Is it really as bad as people make it out to be?

A. We moved here from Chicago five years ago. When I flew down for my interview, my wife practically had to be forced onto the plane at gunpoint. Now I wouldn't be able to get her to leave. Dispense with all the cliches. Birmingham is a great city with lots of entertainment (an astonishingly good music scene, if that's your deal), amazingly good restaurants, and a generally fun atmosphere. Plus, if you go out of your way to make friends (which is what you should do in any move, but in the South its particularly important), you'll have a great stay here. The race thing just doesn't seem to be much of an issue in Birmingham, at least no more than any other major city. In fact, I see far less overt racism here than I witnessed in Chicago. One… [cont.]

Q. My boyfriend and I are no longer together. Since our seperation and even before he hasnt done much to support our son. To make a long story short, What all do I have to do in order to obtain Child Support? I live in Alabama and I wasnt quite sure how it worked.
Asked by Katelyn Lindsey:) - Tue Dec 1 20:12:02 2009 - Marriage & Divorce - 4 Answers - Comments
A. If his name is on your son's birth certificate, then you can just file. If his name is not on the birth certificate, you'll have to get a paternity test. Once you have proof that he's the father (cause there is no marriage) then you can file for child support. You'll need to have an attorney file the paperwork with the court. The amount of support is based on the income of both of the parents. There are certain percentages based on your income compared to his etc... For example if he earns more than you then the percentage he pays will be higher. Either way he's going to pay something. A. If his name is on your son's birth certificate, then you can just file. If his name is not on the birth certificate, you'll have to get a paternity test. Once you have proof that he's the father (cause there is no marriage) then you can file for child support. You'll need to have an attorney file the paperwork with the court. A. Hi I do not live in Alabama now. I am originally from Andalusia Al, also lived in Greenville Al. I currently live in Lugoff South Carolina, but still have family in Alabama. Anytime Alabama plays one of our local teams, I pull for Alabama.
