A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism in 1939. The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Co-Dependents Anonymous and Debtors Anonymous. Thanks for posting this. I agree with you that the 12 steps is not christian but opens the door for New age beliefs. I have family members in 12 step programs and although it is good that they are sober but what good is that if they are eternally lost because they are told that their higher power can be anything they want it to be. My dad says that your higher power can be a tree or what ever you want. I always tell him that the tree can't do anything for you. Only the true living God can truly set people free. The 12 steps also puts to much dependence in man or a sponsor. It also shows freedom by works and not faith. You have to keep working it and if you don't you fail. Jesus is the only answer.
